When your gut feeling doesn’t say yes.

Sometimes everything looks good on paper – and yet it doesn’t feel right. Your child needs more than care: clear supervision, consistent caregivers, and a protected environment.

When that sense of security is missing, inner restlessness can show up quickly: children may cling, withdraw, or seem tense. Parents notice their child is being cared for – but hasn’t yet found a place where they truly feel secure.

Connection creates security. Security creates development.

Acton Academy – age-appropriate in the Entdeckernest

Even in the Entdeckernest, we follow the core principles of Acton Academy – adapted to the needs of children ages 2 to 5. The focus is on relationships and security. At the same time, we foster age-appropriate independence, responsibility, and community spirit.

Independence in everyday life

Children choose activities, try things independently, and experience success through their own actions.

Responsibility on a small scale

Whether it’s tidying up, helping, or following shared rules – children learn that their contribution matters.

Clear structure and rituals

Recurring routines provide orientation and stability.

Guidance by qualified Guides

Our Guides create a clear framework, ask questions, and support children in finding their own solutions.

A place where children are allowed to grow

With security, sensory experience, and a real connection to nature, we create the foundation for strong personalities.

Attachment & Security

Attachment-oriented early childhood education in small groups. We build genuine relationships and emotional security as the foundation for all development.

Holistic Developmental Logic

Lived practice instead of “storage.” We integrate evolutionary pedagogy, Reggio, Montessori, and SI practice (Sensory Integration) to individually support each child’s potential.

Activation of the senses

Targeted support for the connection between the nervous system, body, and brain in dedicated sensory and movement rooms (Snoezelen, psychomotor skills).

Nature as a Learning Environment

Movement in nature supports the immune system, concentration, and emotional balance. Children who explore, climb, and observe outdoors find inner peace.

Healthy food & rest have a firm place with us

Uncompromising organic health: From farm to plate

The daycare follows a holistic health concept with 100% organic, seasonal, and regional food – freshly prepared daily, often from the affiliated organic farm.

Your child receives breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack – dinner is also available upon request. Breastfeeding mothers are warmly welcome.

Sleep / Rest / Retreat

We have dedicated quiet areas and built-in breaks so children can regulate and truly recharge.

Holistic Environmental Design – Learning with all senses

Our rooms are intentionally designed and are part of our educational concept. Instead of a classic group room, children experience an environment that supports security, movement, and relaxation.

What makes our rooms special:

  • Natural materials like wood and cork create warmth, calm, and pleasant acoustics.

  • A Healthy indoor climate supports fresh air and physical well-being.

  • Gentle, coordinated lighting supports orientation and daily rhythm.
  • Retreats give children space for calm, regulation, and security.

Transitions that provide security

Daycare → Kindergarten

We accompany the separation consciously – with clear steps, trust, and individual support. Parents share knowledge, we build on it.

Kindergarten → School

The transition to school is prepared – without pressure: children gain self-confidence, structure, and joy in learning.

In close exchange with parents – from the very beginning

In daycare, personal day-to-day exchange is paramount. At drop-off and pick-up, there’s a direct handover, complemented by digital daily reviews and 1-2 individual development discussions per year.

Your child’s individual characteristics and needs are documented to ensure continuity. Parents are active co-creators – in projects, family workshops, and shared rituals.

FAQ – Your questions answered

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about the Entdeckernest and the application process. Our FAQ gives you a quick overview.

Our daycare welcomes children ages 2 to 5. We work in an age-appropriate way and are guided by each child’s individual developmental stage.

The settling-in process is gentle, attachment-oriented, and individual. We start gradually, in close exchange with the team – at your child’s pace, so trust can grow.

In small groups, we create space where every child is seen and supported with care. Exact group size depends on the location. In Dübendorf, there are up to 10 children per group.

Eating is a shared ritual for us: we focus on regional and seasonal food, and a calm, child-friendly eating culture. Rest periods are built into the day: children can sleep or retreat depending on their needs – without pressure.

We offer care models that help reconcile family life and work – with clear drop-off and pick-up windows and predictable holiday arrangements. The Entdeckernest in Dübendorf is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For families with longer working hours, we offer care until 7:00 PM – including dinner upon request (for an additional charge).

Communication takes place in person, by phone, via email, and through our internal school app. Parents receive regular updates, brief handovers during drop-off and pick-up, and individual meetings whenever needed.

It is important to us that you always feel well informed and know how your child is doing in everyday life.

The exact costs will be discussed in a personal meeting.

If your working hours change, we’ll find suitable solutions together. We offer flexible care models so family life and work can be well balanced.

The everyday language is Swiss German – familiar, warm, and close. Playful English is also naturally integrated into daily life through songs, games, and small rituals. No pressure, no program – just language that lives.

An international educational model – established for more than 15 years

Acton Academy was founded in Texas in 2009 and is now a global network with over 300 locations. The pedagogical concept is implemented internationally and continuously developed – in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Research on active, dialogue-based learning forms confirms:

  • Increased intrinsic motivation through self-directed learning

  • Significantly improved problem-solving and transfer skills

  • More sustainable knowledge retention compared to purely instructional teaching

  • Positive effects on personal responsibility and self-efficacy
